Who is the enemy?
My director lent me a book the other day based on LBJ’s journey to the White House, named “The Years of Lyndon Johnson, The Passage of Power”. It delves into the strategies and obstacles Johnson endured while coming up in his political career. One of his biggest obstacles for obtaining office was JFK who, like Johnson, was making silent moves with fierce determination! The way in which both parties observed, befriended, and mislead their opponent, sometimes even their allies, was simple admirable! Only being in chapter three, so far, I’ve learned Kennedy and Johnson both suffered from chronic health issues, which hindered their career but not enough to stop them from getting what they wanted, the White House. This proves that nothing and NO ONE can stop you from achieving anything other than yourself! Johnson is the perfect example of someone getting in their own way. As much as he wanted, desperately, to become president, his fear of failure caught up to him. His fear of being seen with so much faith in winning the presidential nomination only to lose was something he just couldn’t bear. So what?! All that work and pain, literal pain, for nothing?! Kennedy on the other hand worked his way through his unbearable back pain, giving speeches in as many cities as he could, gaining reputation and confidence. He wasn’t such a confident hunk in his early political years according to his colleagues. He worked that to his advantage, playing the role of an “unfit” political member, causing politicians to underestimate Mr. Kennedy. Clever SOB! Personally, I relate to both LBJ and JFK. As much as I’m determined and passionately driven to achieve all goals, the fear of failure often stops me from manifesting them all the way. It’s easy for me to start something but do I follow through? Unfortunately, often times… no :/. This blog is my inspiration/motivation to continue moving forward, pushing through the fear, alchemizing it! Only we can decide for ourselves whether we sink or we swim. Fear is nothing but a thief of dreams and freedom. We run away from it instead of flowing with it, learning from it! This begs the question, is fear our worst enemy? Or have we been our very OWN worst enemy this entire time?
